Rationalists believe that reason is the best way to understand the world around us. They argue that our senses can be deceived, and that our emotions can lead us astray. But reason, they argue, is a reliable guide to truth.

• Importance of logic and evidence

Rationalists emphasize the importance of using logic and evidence to evaluate beliefs and actions. They believe that we should not accept a belief simply because it is popular or because it has been passed down to us from our ancestors. Instead, we should examine the evidence for and against a belief and use logic to determine whether it is true.

• Rejection of tradition, authority, and emotion

Rationalists reject reliance on tradition, authority, or emotion. They believe that these things can lead us astray. Instead, they believe that we should rely on reason to guide our beliefs and actions.
